The Catechism of the Catholic Church (#1213) teaches that, "Holy Baptism is the basis for the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments." Because of the importance of this sacrament parents are requested to contact the parish as soon as possible after the birth of their child to set a date and time for the baptism and to arrange for a required Baptism Preparation Session. If parents prefer, participation in a preparation session may take place prior to the birth of their child.
